Observational database of the SPA and BAA Lunar Sections

All the BAA Lunar Section topographical material in the possession of the Topographical Sub-section Coordinator is being scanned and databased. One of the advantages of having all the material to hand in a digital format is that we can compare observations of the same feature made at the same time or of the same feature under similar conditions of illumination. It makes research much easier and expands the possibilities for research. Featured below is one example, a comparison between observations of Cleomedes, made on 2004 September 2, the observers being Grahame Wheatley (at left) and Phil Morgan. The times are almost identical, Grahame's being 03:15-04:00 UT (Col 122.3-122.7), and Phil's 02:50-04:00 UT (Col 122.1-122.7).

The topographical archives will eventually be released on DVD (available to members for just the cost of the DVD and P&P). If you have any lunar observational material that you wish to be included in the BAA Lunar Section Topographical archives, you are welcome to send them directly to me, by regular mail in paper or digital form, or as email attachments. I will be happy to return all material that is physically posted to me. The project goes hand in hand with my aim to scan and database all the SPA Lunar Section's observational archives.
